I want to just say that I took none of these pictures so I apologize for some of them being blurry, but these are the pictures that best capture the moment and My handsome/fun and crazy husband had a great time using our awesome new camera.

We were originally scheduled for a C-Section Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7:30 AM. We were so excited we couldn't even stand it. But this birth story started Feb. 17 at 8:30 AM. My doctor called saying that he had been over scheduled and had to be somewhere else right at the time that we had scheduled my c-section. However he said that he would be willing to do it Friday morning or Wednesday evening.
Just for the record, he apologized profusely and I couldn't help but be understanding. I have this image in my head of a modern Mother, from a TV show, that thinks she can schedule having a baby - she has it all planned out so she can have all her hair and make-up done, all of her friends will be by at the appropriate time - and of course her water breaks early, she gives birth to the baby all by herself and goes into a frenzy panic that everything isn't taken care of at work.
Also for the record, I feel really blessed that this modern technology exists so that we can schedule these things, otherwise I probably would not be a part of this wonderful world. Thus we chose to schedule it on Wednesday evening. Can you imagine that I wouldn't want to wait until Friday?

Back to the Story: We finally arranged everything and had everything solidified by about 12:30 pm on Feb. 17. I couldn't have food or water from that point on and I had to be at the hospital by 3:00. My Mom cancelled a few things to come down early to be with Aria. Nate had to cancel his patient, and we had to get there early so that I could register with the hospital. This is of me waiting in the waiting room to fill out the registration papers at the front desk. After we got all the paper work filled out I headed up to the 2nd floor to the labor and delivery room. Nate had gone back to get the informational papers my doctor had given me. and so he met me up there shortly after. We had fun, snapping pictures, just the two of us in the labor and delivery room while they were monitoring the baby. And I just love this picture of Nate, he's in his operating room garb excited as ever to be having this baby! I call that picture 'Joy'! :)

I decided that I don't know how Women lay on these beds for hours on end. ugh. Worst beds ever. and then on the way to the operating room I drank this delicious drink that I think is supposed to keep me from hurling everywhere, that tasted like sweet tarts, only without the sweet and kind of had the texture of oil. The taste actually makes you want to hurl... ironic.

One thing that was different about this one from last one is that I actually walked into the operating room, sat down on the operating table and sat hunched over while they stuck a needle in my back. I laid down and I began to go numb. I began to panic. I couldn't breathe, and they began the surgery. Thus they got me the oxygen and I had to concentrate on taking deep breaths. I began to feel them tugging on me and the only two things I remember the doctor saying was... "Looks like we've got some hair!" and "Whoa, look at the size of that head!" I calmed down considerably after Nate came in the room and I knew the baby was out. I know I was numb from the armpits down, but I could genuinely feel a lightening on my body. It was an Amazing feeling!

He was born at 6:31 p.m. Feb. 17, 2010. Apparantly I wasn't the only one having problems getting enough air because they had to suck out Jefferson's nose and mouth for quite a while. He shaped up though and began to cry. They finally get him to cry and they say "that's what we like to hear!"

Shortly after that they weighed and measured him. 21" and 9 lbs. 13 (12.6) oz.

Nate then brought him over so that I could see him and then they took him back to my room while they finished sewing me up. Grandma and Big sister were there waiting for him. He just needed to spend some time under the heat lamp. She just loved him.
Photobucket
Then they wheeled me into his room and I finally got to hold him. I'm not really sure how I got this puffy in a matter of an hour, but here I am puffy eyes and all, holding my sweet and also puffy little boy. He still had amniotic fluid all throughout his hair. He was so precious to me.

Next they gave him a bath and his baby acne started to show up. Still taking a heat bath.... so cute.

We spent about 2 days in the hospital. Most of the time he was asleep. We had some wonderful visits from Grandma, big sister, and Jason and Erin. He slept so well in the hospital that I was able to have him in the room with me. I healed really quickly and stopped bleeding really early on. Breastfeeding has been amazing this time and I am grateful to have this little boy in our home.

We brought him home two days later in the late evening. Grandma and Big sister were here to greet him and we still can't get enough of him. On the way home today from taking Aria to the dentist, Aria was still upset about the traumatizing things they do to you in the dentist's (daddy's) office and she whined.. ' I want Jefferson....' So cute! Kind of how kids say 'I want my Mommy!'

I just adore my kids and can't wait to get to know them even better. They have beautiful spirits.

Also, a special thank you to all those who left comments, congratulations, gifts, and meals. Every thought and word means so much to us. Thank you! And of course both grandmas. We couldn't have done it without you.

To better suit my purposes, I have decided to make this more of a journal. That's what it is anyway, but I see no reason to allow random people to see it. I am going *private* Please leave your email if you are even a casual observer at the happenings in the Pettit household. You are welcome any time. The change will happen one month from today.
