We had a great Halloween. We missed out a little on our pumpkin patch experience. Had a little crazier schedule this month that we never got out to do it as a family. But Aria picked the cutest tall and skinny pumpkin from the grocery store. We got lots of comments on it. :)
All of our family pictures were.... let's just say.... less than perfect... but so... us.
These pictures kind of tell the story. Jeff hated his costume at the beginning of the month, but by the end he had no problem wearing it and would even hoot on command. He looked darling. Don't you think?
I used a combination of inspiration and martha stewart. Check out my board on pinterest. or Martha's tutorial here.
I used this tutorial for the cap. by Sweet pea. It's DARLING! Definitely on my list to make for future baby showers. I enlarged it a little to help out with my sun's gigantic head. I used fabric that I had lying around and a t-shirt from goodwill. Should be able to fit him for a few years as you can tell by the exposed shoulder. I chose to do it on a short sleeve shirt because... I live in Houston, but you could definitely make it long sleeved or sweats to make it more suitable for those in cooler weather. I would say that the Felt held up the best when washed though, so maybe go with all felt if you have to purchase. It doesn't fray as easily.
Aria wanted to be a peacock. I was trying to go with a bird theme, but couldn't get Nate to dress up like a chicken.. or any other bird. So that idea was lost... :) We were exposed to peacocks at a great park in Las Vegas, that just lets them roam free. We had a lot of fun visiting them when we lived there so it was kind of fun to reminisce that experience. She really did actually sound like one... :)
I glued a premade feather bunch to a mask. Bought a cheap child's boa and then sewed a tutu skirt. She loved it. She felt pretty and she looked awesome.
She wanted to dance like a peacock too.
For those of you who knew about my dilemma with the Indian Saree. I decided to cut it up and use it in places that were meaningful to me. The underskirt can be worn to church and it's actually really pretty. I just made the frilly tutus tie over the top. And then I will use the rest for things around my house that will beautify it and remind me of my Grandma. A much better use for it than in my drawer... never to be worn. I can truly say that Aria appreciates it too.
Nate and I dressed up this year. Who do you think is scarier? Jeff thought Nate was scarier.
Every time he saw Nate with that wig he'd cower in fright. Nate thought he was pretty cool.
He probably was... :) But Jeff wasn't afraid of me at all.
He'd just say 'nake! 'nake! sssssss. He liked to touch the snakes too. I got them at the dollar store. This costume? 4 dollars. 2 for the goodwill sheet and 2 for 2 packs of snakes. Oh and I spent one dollar on some bluish make-up, but I've been using it since as well so I don't know if that really counts.
I just braided my hair up all over my head and then weaved the snakes in. This idea was also from Martha. I used this tutorial for my makeup. I didn't use anywhere near the same stuff just close to the same colors. But it was just for Halloween, so I wasn't concerned about it. I love the processing on this one.
And I think we finally got a picture that's okay. I think Jeff's pointing at an airplane. He's pretty much obsessed with those now.
This is how most of them go though... :) So funny!
Hope you all had a happy Halloween!
